ulgarian-born artist Nikola Nikolov exemplifies the "make something new" spirit by taking beloved objects and refashioning into new items to enhance the homes and lives of their owners. According to the concept statement on his website, "Studio-Re-Creation aims to preserve and re-shape your personal belongings and memories towards your design of desire."
Miss Lynn: Make Something New!
I first experienced Fred Conlon's metal sculptures at an art & craft show in Kansas City this fall while I was there to play some shows. Fred had a large area, a couple of booths worth, with a wonderland of creatures built from (mainly) reclaimed parts. My four-year old friend Lucas could barely tear himself away!
From her studio in New York City, Erin Slattery Black makes the world more fun and whimsical with the kids' sweaters and hats she crafts from previously-used materials. As you can see from the photos below, many of her creations are made out of old sweaters. Here are some of my favorites!
Howdy and welcome to the new Miss Lynn blog! Since the title song of my new CD ("Make Something New") is all about reusing and recycling old items into new ones, I wanted to have a place to share with you some cool ways people are doing just that! Check back here in the coming weeks and months to see different things creative folks are doing to take something old and make something new. Maybe their ideas will give you some of your own!
Do you have something new you made out of something old? Or do you know an artist who specializes in using repurposed materials? Tell me about it at misslynn [at] misslynn [dot] com!
